Managing Source Accounts

You can manage user and group accounts that are part of tethered containers, using the Source Accounts area on the Tether tab.

Information about accounts that you export to a container is displayed on the Accounts tab.

Notes:

  • If you select a user account and export it to the container, and then set it as the logon user for a service that has also been added to the container, that user account will be imported to the underlying operating system of the destination machine automatically when the container is docked. A user account bundled with the container which does not correspond to the login credentials of a service will not be imported automatically. You must use the Import option of the https://virtamove.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/VDOC/pages/314081648/virtauser?search_id=f2ce68fa-fc5a-41a5-91b7-cc46dda76ce7 command line utility to import this user account.

  • When you undock a container, the associated user and group accounts, as well as any required permissions that were added to existing accounts, are not removed from the underlying operating system.

To Manage User Accounts

  1. Select the container for which you enabled Tether, and then click the Tether tab.

  2. Run an Audit of the source and destination machine by clicking the Run Audit button. If credentials fail or pre-requisites have not been met for tethering, an error message is displayed at the bottom of the Administrative Console window. To scroll through messages, click the Back or Forward button on the left or right of the message bar. You can view the Audit Report by going to the Appliance Logs tab to determine what the problem is.

  3. Click the Find Applications button. A list of accounts on the source machine is displayed in the Source Accounts tab.

  4. Click the Source Accounts tab.

  5. In the Users area, select user accounts that you want to export to the tethered container or de-select user accounts as required. Groups associated with a user will be automatically selected and saved to the user bundle.

  6. Click Save. Your changes are reflected in the list of user accounts on the Account tab.

  7. If you selected a user account that does not correspond to the login credentials of a selected service bundled with the container, then you must use the Import command-line utility to import this user.

To Manage Group Accounts

  1. Select the container for which you enabled Tether, and then click the Tether tab.

  2. Run an Audit of the source and destination machine by clicking the Run Audit button.   5. In the Groups area, select group accounts that you want to export to the tethered container or de-select group accounts as required.

  6. Click Save. Your changes are reflected in the list of group accounts on the Account tab.
